Pacifica Blue

28 Feb

I woke up this morning to the extremely annoying sound of a lawn mower and an itch of wanting to do some further testing on my new Canon 550D T2i. After a rainy morning here in the bay area, I ran out to Pacifica pier to shoot a follow up piece to my little video “Pacifica”. “Pacifica Blue” is a simpler, more somber version of “Pacifica”. I decided to use a cooler blue palette compared to the original magic-hour orange color scheme. It was shot mostly with the 550D’s T2i’s 18-55mm kit lens with the 17-40mm L and 70-200mm L thrown in here and there. The more I work with this camera, the more I am impressed with it. It’s like the little engine that could. I’ve gotten several e-mails from people asking me to compare it to its big brother, the 7D, and I am happy to oblige BUT…  before I get to it, I have to warn you that I don’t have an interest in graphs, charts, or pixel counting. There are plenty of people and places all over the web who will do that for you. I will be judging the two cameras from a strictly visual point of view.

Canon 550D T2i on The Bridge

27 Feb

When I heard that Canon’s upcoming 550D (Rebel T2i) was gonna have the same video quality as the 7D for half the price, I thought it was too good to be true.

Well, all I can say is, if the quality isn’t the same, it’s certainly damn close because I can’t tell the difference. I was so happy with the test footage that I decided to take a gamble and shoot one of my scenes from my WW2 film “The Bridge” on the T2i just to see how it would match up with the rest of the movie (prior, the film was being shot with the 7D and 5D Mark II). The result? It fit perfectly like like a glove with the rest of the footage.

Canon’s DSLRs on The Bridge

16 Feb

The last time I made a short film was 2 years ago while attending film school. That was when I realized I had an itch to scratch. In November 2009, I decided that I would take a little ghost story that my grandmother told me when I was child and adapt it into my next short film. But, being a lover of period pieces, I decided to make it my own and make it into a World War II film. Read the rest of this entry »

Canon 17-40mm f4L

29 Jan

I went hunting for an ultra-wide lens for my Canon 5D & 7D the other day and ran into a listing for a 17-40mm f4 L-Series lens on Craigslist. This baby retails for around $850 but I managed to pick it up for a cool $550. What a steal! It’s a beautiful peace of glass and I can’t wait to start taking photographs with it and I’m sure I’ll also be using for my film “The Bridge”. At 17mm, I have a feeling that my shots are going to take off to another level of epic-ness.

Canon 7D Arrives!

02 Oct

7D

My new Canon 7D arrived today from New York. I am extremely excited about this camera because aside from giving incredible depth-of-field, it also finally gives me full 1080p 24p, 25p, 30p, and 60p that my Canon 5D Mark II lacks. And if you’re a filmmaker like me, you know how important that is.

Canon 70-200mm f4L

24 Aug

Canon 70-200 Today I picked up the Canon 70-200mm telephoto lens for my 5D Mark II. It is considered one of Canon’s best lenses. Perfect for nature and portrait photography. I can’t wait to take pretty pictures with this amazing piece of glass.

For more information, check out a review of the lens here.
