Film Threat Reviews “Shave”

02 May

Film Threat was kind enough to write a review “Shave”, a short film that I digitally colored and did visual effects for. They gave it a raving 5 stars!

“Christensen’s short film, “Shave,” is a brilliant, experimental documentary drama. It is a joyous yet disturbing autobiographical disconnect of a toddler’s violent clash with the adult world. Here, young Sean must come to terms with his father’s abrupt decision to shave his mustache and thereby, his identity.”

Thanks Sean for letting me be a part of your very cool project! For the full written review please check it out here.

Sutro Baths

02 Mar

Alrighty, day three of testing the Canon 550D T2i. After another rainy day here in the Bay Area, the clouds broke apart nicely so I decided to take a nice leisurely drive up to the Sutro Baths. I know Mr. Bloom recently did an excellent piece here but I felt like a few more wide shots would of been nice to truly grasp the beauty of Sutro Baths. So for this piece, I decided to shoot exclusively on my 17-40mm f4L.

Pacifica Blue

28 Feb

I woke up this morning to the extremely annoying sound of a lawn mower and an itch of wanting to do some further testing on my new Canon 550D T2i. After a rainy morning here in the bay area, I ran out to Pacifica pier to shoot a follow up piece to my little video “Pacifica”. “Pacifica Blue” is a simpler, more somber version of “Pacifica”. I decided to use a cooler blue palette compared to the original magic-hour orange color scheme. It was shot mostly with the 550D’s T2i’s 18-55mm kit lens with the 17-40mm L and 70-200mm L thrown in here and there. The more I work with this camera, the more I am impressed with it. It’s like the little engine that could. I’ve gotten several e-mails from people asking me to compare it to its big brother, the 7D, and I am happy to oblige BUT…  before I get to it, I have to warn you that I don’t have an interest in graphs, charts, or pixel counting. There are plenty of people and places all over the web who will do that for you. I will be judging the two cameras from a strictly visual point of view.

Canon’s DSLRs on The Bridge

16 Feb

The last time I made a short film was 2 years ago while attending film school. That was when I realized I had an itch to scratch. In November 2009, I decided that I would take a little ghost story that my grandmother told me when I was child and adapt it into my next short film. But, being a lover of period pieces, I decided to make it my own and make it into a World War II film. Read the rest of this entry »
